Baileys. How to drink Baileys liqueur at home What kind of drink is Baileys

Liquor lovers have probably heard of Baileys. This drink perfectly combines two main components - whiskey and cream. It appeared in 1974 and over several decades has become one of the most famous liqueurs in the world. Attempts by other manufacturers to repeat their success have failed, but Baileys remains unique.

Baileys(Russian: "Beilis" or "Beyliz") - sweet Irish cream liqueur with a strength of 17%. It is made by mixing triple distilled whiskey and fresh cream, followed by the addition of caramel, vanilla, vegetable oil and cocoa, and does not contain preservatives. Some liqueur varieties also contain mint, coffee and chocolate.

Types of Baileys liqueur

  • Baileys The Original - regular creamy version without additives;
  • Baileys Mint Chocolate – with mint and chocolate;
  • Baileys Creme Caramel – caramel version;
  • Baileys Coffee - with coffee.

When you first get acquainted with this liqueur, I advise you to remember 5 rules for its use:

1. Submission time. Baileys belongs to the classic digestifs - drinks served after meals, the task of which is to promote the absorption of food. It is appropriate to place it on the table at the very end of the meal along with dessert dishes. Baileys is rarely used as a drink for the whole evening, as it is combined only with a sweet snack.

2. Dishes. In its pure form, Baileys is best drunk from 25-30 ml liqueur glasses (pictured). If the liqueur is served with ice or mixed with other drinks, then it is poured into larger wine or martini glasses.

3. Temperature. Baileys is served at room temperature (18-20°C). You can put a few ice cubes in the glass to cool it, but the liquor bottle itself does not cool.

4. Combination with other drinks. Baileys is added to unsweetened coffee, in which case the liqueur replaces cream and sugar, additionally giving the coffee a light alcoholic tint.

Baileys can be mixed with strong spirits that have a neutral taste, such as vodka and gin. This combination is more suitable for men who do not like the excessive sweetness of Baileys. By adding vodka or gin to this liqueur, you will simultaneously raise the strength of the drink and make it less sweet.

Baileys cannot be diluted with juices, mineral water and soda, otherwise under the influence of acid and carbon dioxide the cream will immediately curdle and the liqueur will become tasteless.

5. Dishes. Baileys can be enjoyed with any dessert. The best option is creamy ice cream, which perfectly complements the taste of liqueur. Fruits you can serve include bananas and strawberries with cream. Also, Baileys liqueur goes well with grated chocolate, marshmallows, cookies, peanuts and sweet cottage cheese.

Excellent snack for liqueur

Recently, it has become fashionable to snack on Baileys with fruit salads topped with yogurt or cream.

Cocktails with Baileys

This liqueur is not only drunk in its pure form; you can use it to prepare several delicious mixes at home.

Baileys liqueur– Irish cream liqueur with a strength of 17%. The drink contains cream and whiskey. Baileys has been produced since 1974 by the Irish company R. A. Bailey&Co. It is a leading liquor company. In the first year, 72,000 bottles of Baileys were produced.

This drink is made from Irish whiskey, which is triple distilled to give it smoothness.

The idea of mixing whiskey with other foods and drinks is not new. In the 70s, whiskey remained a popular drink in the Irish domestic market, but it was difficult to export the product. In order to increase the sales market, it was decided to experiment with recipes for making drinks based on it. Often whiskey was mixed with citrus fruits, as well as coffee, but since these ingredients were expensive, producers had to turn to native products, that is, cream. Dairy products were very cheap at the time, so farmers were happy to sell the cream to the liqueur maker. Today, 40% of Ireland's milk goes into Baileys production.

Baileys liqueur began to be produced near Dublin. It is produced under the patented brand "Baileys Irish Cream". At first, the company, headed by David Dand, produced mainly gin and whiskey. The company then created a liqueur that is one of the top ten best-selling alcoholic beverages. This liqueur is considered one of the most popular in the world. It has a pleasant aroma and creamy taste. David Dand and his colleagues from Gilbeys of Ireland developed a liqueur recipe that was supposed to contain only natural ingredients. It was decided to make the liqueur from traditional Irish products: cream and whiskey, in order to obtain a product with a national character. The taste of the drink completely captivated the employees; there was only one problem left: the cream and whiskey, whipped with a mixer, did not have a constant consistency. At first they tried to replace the cream with milk, but it simply curdled, and the product spoiled quickly. Gilbeys of Ireland continued to improve the recipe for the drink, and only 4 years later Baileys liqueur became what it is known today.

The resulting drink exceeded all the expectations of its creators. In order to make its taste even more pleasant, it was decided to add the aroma of vanilla, chocolate, and caramel to the liqueur. As a result, Baileys very quickly conquered women all over the world with its mild taste and delicious aroma.

A special feature of Baileys liqueur is its completely natural composition. The drink does not contain preservatives, but thanks to a special production technology it can be stored for 18 months. British scientists advised the manufacturer to use harmonization technology, which allows achieving a uniform consistency. According to this technology, each molecule of whiskey envelops cream, and grain alcohol, butter, cocoa, and flavorings are then added to the product.

The history of Baileys liqueur is not only the history of preparing a delicious drink, but also a skillfully thought out marketing campaign. The presentation of the liqueur did not make the right impression on the invited journalists and guests. They liked its taste, but nothing more. David Dand, in response to this, proclaimed Baileys liqueur a traditional Irish drink and, in support of this, even began pouring it into a pot-bellied bottle that resembled the jug from which whiskey is drunk in Ireland.

In order to make Baileys liqueur as close as possible to the Irish, David decided to add to the drink the family values that his compatriots so revered. Not far from David's office was the Bailey Bar, where W.&A employees spent their free time. Gilbey. David decorated the liquor bottle with the name Baileys, which resembled a common Irish surname.

The company R. A. Bailey & Co decided to diversify the range of everyone’s favorite liqueur and released a number of new products:

    • Baileys Original is a traditional liqueur, an aromatic drink with a taste of coffee with cream.
    • "Bailey's Mint Chocolate" is a drink with mint and chocolate.
    • Baileys Coffee is a liqueur with added coffee.
    • Baileys Cream Caramel is a liqueur with the addition of caramel.
    • "Baileys Hazelnut (Hazelnut) Flavor" - a drink with hazelnuts.

The liqueurs of this company have their own characteristics. As mentioned, they do not contain preservatives. The drink contains fresh cream, which quickly deteriorates, but thanks to whiskey aged for 2-3 years, as well as special technology, the liqueur retains its taste for a long time.

On the liqueur label there is the inscription “Best taste before...”, which means that the drink is best consumed immediately, since an open bottle of Baileys does not last long.

Beneficial features

Baileys liqueur contains only natural ingredients; the basis of the drink is cream and whiskey. In moderate quantities, the drink improves mood and helps with depression and insomnia.

The calorie content of the product is 327 kilocalories per 100 g of drink, therefore It is better to refrain from drinking liquor for people who adhere to a diet.

Use in cooking

In cooking, Baileys liqueur is traditionally used to make desserts. So, they pour it over biscuits, ice cream, and cakes. You can also add a little liqueur to coffee to give it a special taste. Today the company produces Baileys in mint-chocolate and creamy-caramel flavors. The liqueur is also great for making chocolate cookies, yoghurts, and fruit salads.

For example, you can cook very delicious jelly based on this liqueur. For this we need cow's milk, ground coffee, Baileys liqueur, gelatin, vanilla, sugar, mint. First you need to brew a portion of coffee and add sugar to the slightly cooled drink. Vanilla and sugar are also added to the milk. Gelatin is poured with cold water (about 1 glass of water) and left to swell. Gelatin must be divided into 3 parts: add one part to milk, the second to coffee, and the third to liqueur. Pour liqueur into the bottom of the mold and leave in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. After the layer has hardened, you need to pour out the coffee layer and put it in the refrigerator again, the third layer is milk, it is made according to the same scheme. The finished jelly is placed in the refrigerator overnight, decorated with coffee beans, powdered sugar, and mint leaves.

Liqueur is rightfully considered a women's drink: it is not very strong and also has a mild taste. Women prefer to eat it with ice cream as a dessert. It is often mixed with other drinks to create creamy cocktails.

So, in order to prepare this cocktail It is necessary to pour Kahlua liqueur, Baileys liqueur, and Grand Marnier orange liqueur into the glass in layers in equal proportions. You can also prepare a second version of this drink. All ingredients for this must be mixed in a shaker with ice; if desired, the cocktail is set on fire and drunk through a straw very quickly while it is burning.

Women will really like it Strawberry cocktail based on Baileys. Mix 100 ml of liqueur, 50 ml of cream or ice cream and 10 ml of strawberry vodka in a shaker. Decorate the cocktail with whipped cream.

How to drink correctly?

Baileys liqueur can be drunk both on its own and as part of cocktails, and it also goes well with ice. Some gourmets believe that liqueur does not go well with citrus fruits, as well as tonic. When preparing cocktails, Baileys liqueur is usually mixed with stronger alcoholic drinks, such as vodka and rum. Chocolate, milk, iced coffee, strawberries, banana, and chocolate chips go well with liqueur.

Baileys cream liqueur is so delicious that you can drink it on its own, enjoying the delicious taste and aroma.

Baileys resembles more coffee with cream than an alcoholic drink. It is recommended to add a little ice, which makes the chocolate notes more pronounced. Ice Baileys perfectly quenches thirst. The drink goes amazingly with marshmallows, soufflés, and croissants.

You can also cook Coffee Baileys. For this we need 20 ml of espresso coffee, 50 ml of Baileys liqueur and some boiled milk. Decorate the cocktail with whipped milk foam and sprinkle with chocolate chips.

A real Irish drink can also be prepared using Baileys liqueur. To start, take 50 ml of Baileys, 20 ml of whiskey and 10 ml of iced coffee. All ingredients are shaken and served in martini glasses.

You can also cook Chocolate Latin Baileys. The cocktail is prepared from 50 ml of Baileys, 10 ml of vodka and 15 ml of chocolate liqueur. Alcoholic drinks are mixed and poured into a chilled glass.

How to do it at home?

You can make the legendary Baileys cream liqueur with your own hands at home. To do this you will need 1 bottle of vodka, 2 cans of condensed milk, 6 tetra bags of “Chocolate”, 4 tsp. instant coffee and vanilla sugar. All ingredients are mixed in a shaker until smooth. Liqueur can be consumed after preparation. The end result is about 2 liters of liquor. The strength of this drink is 12%. In order to improve the taste of homemade liqueur, it is recommended to put it in the refrigerator overnight.

You can also prepare Baileys according to the following recipe using a slow cooker. For this we need 2 cans of condensed milk, 1 tsp. coffee, vanilla sugar and 0.5 liters of vodka. First, condensed milk is poured into the multicooker, coffee and vanilla sugar, as well as vodka are added to it. If you want the liqueur to have a lower strength, you can dilute the vodka a little with water. All ingredients are stirred and the “milk porridge” mode is turned on. Homemade liqueur will be ready in 20 minutes; you just need to mix it and pour it into bottles. It should be consumed chilled.

Harm of Baileys liqueur and contraindications

The drink can cause harm to the body if there is an individual intolerance to the components, as well as with excessive consumption. Since the liqueur contains 50% cream and milk protein, as well as 1% lactose, Baileys is not recommended for people with lactose intolerance.

The drink is served neat in liqueur glasses, which are similar to martini glasses, but smaller in size (their volume is 25-50 ml).

Among liqueur connoisseurs there are hardly people unfamiliar with the Belis drink (see photo). Its refined, viscous taste is preferred by millions; it is a must-have attribute of romantic evenings and the favorite nectar of society ladies. This wonderful drink harmoniously combines two dissimilar components - whiskey and cream, and is considered the most popular liqueur in the world. Let's look at what Belis is, how to drink it correctly, and whether this wonderful drink can be prepared at home.

Main characteristics

Name: Baileys (in the Russian version - “Belis” or “Baileys”)

Type: cream liqueur.

Strength: 17%.

Country of origin: Ireland.

Brand: R. A. Bailey & Co.

Price: 1300-2000 rubles per 1 liter.

How to serve: as a digestif (at the end of the meal).

How to drink: in cocktails; as an independent drink; adding to coffee.

Historical information

Today the Belis brand is familiar to everyone, and, therefore, the liqueur can be easily purchased anywhere in the world. Its popularity is gaining momentum, but what path did it have to go to become one of the most popular alcoholic drinks?

Belis's homeland is Ireland, which has given the world more than one famous drink. The idea of creating a liqueur belongs to a certain David Dench, who back in 1970 decided to surprise the planet with something extraordinary - a drink whose taste would go beyond the ordinary. A talented guy managed to bring his idea to life; he reunited two seemingly incompatible products in one drink - Irish whiskey and cream. As a result, an unusual liqueur was created with a sweetish-sticky, moderately intoxicating, and most natural taste. It took the name of David's favorite bar, Bailey Pub, and became the official product of the new company R.A. Bailey & Co.

1974 became the starting point for the liqueur to the heights of success. Belis, which compares favorably with similar drinks, has created a real sensation on the alcohol market. First the whole country noticed and fell in love with him, and soon the whole planet.

A little later in 2005, 2 more new flavors were born - creamy caramel and mint chocolate, which were greeted by Belize fans with no less delight.

Special recipe

Company R.A. Bailey & Co, located in Dublin, uses only natural ingredients to prepare the drink. The milk that serves as the basis for the cream is purchased not from third-party suppliers, but from our own cows, which are fed the healthiest plant foods. Delicious cream, elite Irish whiskey, high-quality Irish alcohol are seasoned with special, “natural” additives, giving the liqueur an unearthly taste that is akin to a bright fireworks display of taste effects and sounds.

The recipe and production technology of Belize are kept behind “seven locks”, so it is almost impossible to prepare a second drink like this. And even if you manage to collect all the necessary ingredients, the taste of your liqueur will not be identical to the taste of real Belis.

Attention! Belis does not contain preservatives, so it can boast the longest shelf life - from 18 to 30 months.

Divine taste

The famous Irish Cream Nectar includes triple distilled whiskey, fresh cream, as well as caramel, vegetable oil, vanilla and cocoa. Depending on the species, mint, chocolate, and coffee may also be present.

It is almost impossible to describe the full palette of taste of Belize. Taste pleasure begins with light creamy notes that literally melt on the tongue and smoothly flow into the hop-malt solo of the whiskey, which in turn slowly turns into a chocolate-vanilla sound - tender, airy, enveloping. The relay of taste emotions ends with a long, velvety aftertaste with the presence of hints of cocoa, caramel and cream, complemented by a soft, barely noticeable bitterness.

Varieties of cream liqueur

  • Baileys The Original– a classic version with a delicate creamy sound. Has no additives.
  • Baileys Mint Chocolate– the taste is dominated by mint and chocolate notes.
  • Baileys Creme Caramel– a drink with a delicious caramel presence.
  • Baileys Coffee– the taste clearly reveals shades of natural, invigorating coffee.

How to serve and drink

When drinking liquor, do not forget about 5 main rules:

  1. Belize is a digestif. Cream liqueur belongs to the “digestif” category of drinks; they are served after a meal for better absorption of the food eaten. It can be served with dessert. Belis should not be drunk during meals, as it only harmonizes with sweets, fruits and ice cream.
  2. The right dishes. As a stand-alone drink, Belis should be drunk either in a wide cocktail glass with a thin stem, or in shots with a thick bottom and widened top (photo shown below). The first option is used when serving liqueur with ice, the second - in its pure form.
  3. Temperature conditions. The drink is served at a temperature of 18-20 °C. For cooling purposes, place several ice cubes in a glass; the bottle itself does not need to be cooled.
  4. Interaction with other drinks. Belize goes well with coffee, the latter should be black and unsweetened, since the liqueur perfectly replaces both cream and sugar, giving the drink a soft, hoppy sound. Those who don't like tart sweetness can drink it mixed with vodka or gin. This will help reduce the sweetish notes in the taste and increase the “degrees” of the liqueur.

Attention! Never add mineral water, carbonated drinks or juices to Belize. The carbon dioxide contained in them will instantly curdle the cream, and the taste of the liqueur will be hopelessly spoiled.

Cooking at home: classic recipe

Baileys can be easily made at home, but its taste will only be vaguely similar to the original.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • vodka – 500 ml;
  • egg yolks – 4 pcs.;
  • condensed milk – 1 can;
  • vanilla sugar – 1 teaspoon;
  • instant coffee – 1 s. spoon;
  • cream – 400 ml, fat content no more than 30%.

Cooking diagram:

  1. Using a mixer, beat the egg yolks, condensed milk and vanilla sugar until smooth. Then add coffee.
  2. Continuing to operate the mixer, pour in the cream. Heavy cream should first be diluted with milk.
  3. The final stage is adding vodka and thoroughly mixing the ingredients.
  4. Leave the resulting liqueur to steep overnight without covering it with anything. This is necessary to ventilate alcohol vapors.
  5. The next morning, pour the drink into glass bottles and put it in the refrigerator for several hours. During this time, it will thicken and acquire a delicate, creamy, hoppy flavor.

Attention! Instead of vodka, you can also use whiskey. In this case, the taste of homemade Belis will be close to the factory one.

The article will tell you how to drink cream liqueur and what cocktails you can make from it.

It's rare that anyone can resist the sweet, creamy aroma of Baileys liqueur. It is filled with notes of vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Baileys is an excellent way out of the situation, even when women are not accustomed to drinking alcoholic beverages or do not like the tart taste of stronger drinks. Liqueur can easily be compared to a dessert, because it has a delicate taste and is very easy to drink, and can also be easily combined with sweets.

INTERESTING: This liqueur is the most popular in the world; it was produced in the 70s of the last century.

Essentially, Baileys (or Baileys) is a cream liqueur based on real Irish whiskey. At the moment, there are several varieties of liqueur, which can be distinguished by the characteristic sticker on the bottle (red, green, brown). There is pure cream liqueur, there is coffee, chocolate, mint and others.

IMPORTANT: Baileys is a fairly strong liqueur, containing approximately 17% alcohol. The taste of the liqueur is bitter and at the same time sugary sweet due to the whiskey content.

Baileys liqueur is a digestif and is usually served as a dessert after dinner (after the entire meal). This drink is often combined with dessert: tiramisu, ice cream, chocolate. The liqueur should be served in a special container - this is a small triangular glass on a thin stem with a volume of 20-25 ml (no more). Baileys is usually served only “clean”, without ice or syrups.

INTERESTING: In some recipes, Baileys coffee is added instead of cream. Please note that liqueur is sweet and therefore do not add additional sugar to coffee.

Some people like to serve the drink differently - in a small glass with crushed or solid ice. The drink can be decorated by sprinkling it with cocoa. The liqueur goes well with a light buffet, sweet table, fruit salads, ice cream, chocolate, and cakes. Baileys can be diluted with other liqueurs, milk, cream, coffee, whiskey, vodka, cognac.

Baileys is often included in alcoholic cocktails, but in no case should it be mixed with carbonated drinks, juices and citrus fruits so that the cream in its composition does not curdle. The most popular cocktail names are “B-52”, “Brain Tumor”, “Baileys Smoothie” or “Russian Flag”.

Baileys - creamy cocktail

Coffee with Baileys liqueur: recipe

It's no surprise that Baileys cream liqueur complements hot coffee perfectly. The alcoholic drink is quite sweet and it is better not to add additional sugar to coffee. The pleasant fat content of the cream goes well with the bitterness of the coffee, and the astringency of the whiskey not only adds aroma, but at the same time makes it a “hot” drink.

IMPORTANT: Coffee with Baileys is contraindicated for children under 18 and pregnant women due to the fact that it contains a percentage of alcohol. It is also not advisable to drink this type of coffee for those who drive.

Depending on your preference, you can cook hot Irish coffee or cold Frappuccino. In addition to Baileys, you can also add to hot coffee:

  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • A pinch of vanilla
  • Spoon of white ice cream
  • Decorate with cocoa powder
  • Cream from a container

A cold Frappuccino must be complemented with ice and a straw so that the drink can be drunk like a cocktail. Adjust the amount of Baileys you add to any coffee according to your taste and preferred strength of the finished drink.
